60th Anniversary of Tualatin Crawfish Festival Honors VFW Post 3452

Sixty years ago, VFW Post 3452 started the Crawfish Festival to help raise $4,000 for a Quonset hut to service the veterans of the area.  At the time, the Tualatin River was so full of crawfish they were taken straight from the water and cooked in the VFW kitchen.  Today, the festival is coordinated by the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce and a host of volunteers but the spirit of community and giving back remains just as strong.

“We’re very enthusiastic about this!” stated Dale Potts, spokesperson for the VFW, retired Navy Captain and Post Commander from 2001-2006.  Potts continued, “60 years later, it’s quite appropriate we join back together as both the VFW and the Crawfish Festival enter stages of new growth.  We’re both stronger than ever.”

VFW members will be participating in the parade as well as opening their doors to the “Cpl. Matthew Lembke Hall” for the public to visit on Saturday, August 14th.  The VFW Post 3452 serves Tualatin, Tigard, King City, Sherwood, Wilsonville, Lake Oswego and Durham.  More information can be found about the post online at www.tualatinvfw.com.

The 2010 Tualatin Crawfish Festival takes place Friday, August 13th and Saturday, August 14th throughout the city of Tualatin, Oregon.  Friday night’s festivities include music and a classic Crawfish Cook-Off featuring local restaurants and markets and admission is free.  Saturday morning begins with a pancake feed at 7:30am and then the Festival officially kicks off with the community parade beginning at 10:00 AM.

This year’s festival, presented by West Coast Bank, will feature the theme “Crawfish Fiesta!” The Festival offers a wide variety of food, entertainment and activities for the entire family including music, a dog show and games for all ages.  Saturday admission is $4 for adults; $2 for seniors over 55 and youth age 6 – 17; children from ages 2 – 5 receive a discounted admission of $1 and kids under 2 are FREE.

For additional information about the Tualatin Crawfish Festival visit www.tualatincrawfishfestival.com or call the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce at 503-692-0780.

This lunchtime concert series is also designed to allow for Historic Downtown Gresham restaurants, including our partners for the program – Café Delirium, Wildwood Café and Boccelli’s Restaurante – to provide for quick grab and go meals for guests who want to sample some of the tasty cuisine offered just blocks away from the Plaza.
