This spring has been incredibly wet. I haven't coached a team since my son was a 10 year old back in 2001.....but I entered the world of coaching again this spring. My daughter Lily is on the 10 C team West Linn Pride and I agreed to be an assistant coach...Chris Hoem is the talented head coach of the team. I went through the background check required by the ASA and took their certificiation test. I got 30 out of 31 on the test....thought that was pretty good.
I have had a great time coaching so far this season....execept for the stupid rain! We have had five games rained out so far....and tomorrow's game could be in jeapordy. The girls are off to a good start at 5-1 and hopefully the sun will shine soon.
Why are parents such idiots??? I am a parent. I have been to hundreds and hundreds of football, soccer, basketball, lacrosse, softball, hockey, baseball....you name it. I still don't get why parents can't set good examples for others. I was coaching first base for my daughter's softball team last night....at Oregon City. Lily plays for a 10 and under West Linn team. One of the parents of the OC team was riding the ump. "HEY WHAT PLANET ARE YOU ON TONIGHT UMP.....AND ARE YOU IN THE SAME STADIUM AS I AM UMP?".....anyway...the ump was a 10th grader and was umping her third game EVER. I don't know if the girl in blue even heard the heckler but it is a sad commentary on our society regarding good sportsmanship and how parents can place undo pressure on their kids.
Oh, Lily's team won 8-4.
P.S. I want to thank our Vegan standout Shauna for standing up against eating Rabbit...I just don't see why some people want to eat Rabbit. I guess I am a hypocrite because I eat chicken...but just think eating rabbit is wrong. I will get hate mail from Rabbit eating lovers...but fluffy on a plate isn't what I call good eatin!
Back in the summer of 2005 I decided it was time to give prep athletes in the Portland-Vancouver area some recognition. Thanks to the fine folks at Standard TV and Appliance we started a daily feature on the KPAM 860 Morning show. THE STANDARD STANDOUT OF THE WEEK. Last week I paid a visit to Cleveland High School and honored Alex Rovello the state's top prep tennis player and our Standard Standout. Alex is the 250th recipient of the award. 250 signifys 250 weeks of going to local schools and interviewing teenagers who are making a difference in a positive way. It is heartwarming to look back and recognize some of the athletes and their accomplishments in college and beyond. Local athletes like Endomikin Suh, Rachel Yurkovich, Jack Lomax and many many more. Check out the front page of kpam.com and click on the Standard Standout box to hear some of the recent features we have put together
WELL HERE WE GO...THE BLAZERS UPSET THE SUNS IN GAME ONE OF THE WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYOFFS. A GREAT REASON TO HEAD TO LANGDON FARMS FOR A LITTLE GOLF. ACTUALLY THERE IS NO CONNECTION BUT THE KPAM MORNING SHOW CREW IS OFF TO GOLF AT THE BEAUTIFUL COURSE IN AURORA. ITS A CHANCE FOR LISTENERS TO PLAY A ROUND WITH BOB MILLER AND PAT BOYLE. I GET TO HANG AS WELL ALTHOUGH MY RECENTLY REPAIRED RIGHT KNEE WILL DETERMINE HOW MANY HOLES I WILL PLAY TODAY.
LOOK FOR AN UPDATE TOMORROW MORNING ON HOW THE DAY GOES AND IF OUR LISTENER WINS $100,000 DOLLARS BY MAKING A HOLE-IN-ONE ON A DESIGNATED PAR THREE.

SHAUNA THE VEGAN CHEATER WANTS ME TO GO VEGAN AGAIN...THIS TIME FOR TWO MONTHS AND FOR FOURTY BUCKS! I AM THINKING ABOUT THE SITUATION BECAUSE IT REQUIRES QUITE A CHANGE IN ONES EATING HABITS....READING EVERY DANG LABEL AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE YOUR READING GLASSES WITH YOU....ITS TROUBLING. I MEAN THE FACT I LOST TWENTY BUCKS TO HER IN JANUARY BECAUSE I ATE A BUN WITH HONEY IN IT WAS RIDICULOUS. HOW MANY OF YOU REALIZE THAT BEES ARE ENSLAVED TO MAKE HONEY FOR HUMANS......
I WOULD LOVE SOME FEEDBACK ON THIS ISSUE OF GREAT IMPORTANCE TO MY TUMMY. E-MAIL ME AT ron@kpam.com for your thoughts......
Now on thursday its the Huskies and West Virginia in the Sweet Sixteen! I am pulling for Washington but they are playing West Virginia at Syracuse so the Mountaineers will probably have home dome advantage. The Gaels of St.Mary's facing Baylor. I really think the team from the WCC can advance to the elite eight.....should be fun to watch!!
I have to admit I did attempt to find Canada on my NCAA Bracket but instead I showed my allegience to West Coast Basketball teams and it paid off big time! The Huskies now face New Mexico saturday and they have an excellent chance to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. The Gaels knock off Richmond and will now face Villanova. St.Mary's is playing great basketball right now so it could be a great saturday for the "locals".
Update on Vegan Cheater Shauna. She did a great job today photographing our Jr.Winterhawk Player of the Month...Morgan McKinney. I thought I spotted a half and half creamer packet in her trash can!! Come clean Shauna!!
YES I LOVE TO GIVE SHAUNA A BAD TIME....SHE IS THE TALENTED AND ADEPT PROMO DIRECTOR...WHO DOESN'T CARE A LICK ABOUT SPORTS. I ASKED HER WHO WOULD WIN THE NCAA HOOP TOURNEY...AND SHE SAID....CANADA! I CHUCKLED AND THEN GAVE HER THE BRACKET. AFTER DOING HER RESEARCH.... WE BOTH AGREE THAT KANSAS WILL WIN IT ALL... WAY TO GO SHAUNA.
I AM PICKING WASHINGTON AN 11-SEED TO TAKE DOWN MARQUETTE TODAY......WE'LL SEE IF I HAVE EGG ON MY FACE TOMORROW.
Well, I lied. Shauna is a good Vegan...and our Promo Director. She said....come up with a headline that turns heads...and so I thought mine was pretty good. Big Week for college hoop fans....time to fill out your bracket. I have my first one in front of me. I am going to pick two of the three northwest teams to win. Washington will shock Marquette. Gonzaga will take care of Florida State and prove those east-coach bias NCAA folk that there is quality basketball out here in the sticks.
I will give you all of my winners and losers on Wednesday!!!
